This Sageo has a raised center, like the ridges in a farm field. The center of the cord is slightly raised.
When knotted, the ridges act as an anti-slip barrier to prevent unraveling, so it was widely used as a sword strap in the Edo period.
The color of the strap is selected from shades of indigo. It is a traditional and simple way to make a sword cord, but the use of two colors gives it a wavy, three-dimensional look.
Even though it looks like the strap is too wide to fit through the chestnut-shaped hole, the thin ends shrink slightly, allowing the cord to fit through.
The two streaks of colors are different on the front and back.
The shading on the ridges makes the colors appear richer.
The balance of the color scheme changes depending on the angle of view.
